Tupaantuliaiset/House Warming Party

Viikonloppuna juhlatrilogiamme sai päätöksensä, kun juhlistimme ystävien uutta asuntoa tupaantuliaisten merkeissä. Olemme nyt menestyksekkäästi juhlineet samassa ystäväporukassa kolme viikonloppua peräkkäin. Mukaan on mahtunut Oktoberfest, Halloween ja nyt vielä viimeisenä kreikkalaisaiheinen ilta. Trilogia on ollut hauska juttu, mutta etenkin kun jokaisena juhlaa edeltävänä perjantainakin on ollut jotain menoa, alkaa turnauskestävyys hieman jo hiipua. Onneksi ensi lauantaille ei ole mitään suunnitteilla (perjantaille kylläkin...).

This weekend out party trilogy came to an end, when we celebrated our friends' new home with a house warming party. We have now successfully attended parties on three consecutive weekends with the same group of people. We have been to an Oktoberfest, a Halloween party and now to top everything off, a Greek evening. The trilogy has been a fun thing to do, but especially as we have also had something on every Friday during the past three weeks, it got to be a bit tiring in the end. Luckily we don't have anything planned for next Saturday (although for Friday we do...).

Juhlien koiraemäntänä toimi aina yhtä suloinen Alma.

The doggy hostess of the evening was the ever-sweet Alma.

Illan aluksi nautimme kuohuvaa.

We had bubbly to kick off the evening.

Ystäviemme uusi koti on kaunis, avara ja sisustukseltaan vaalea. Vuodenajan ollessa näin pimeä, kaikki vieraat toivat lahjaksi lyhdyn! Tämä ei ollut mitenkään suunniteltu juttu, vaan täysin sattumaa, jonka inspiraationa on varmastikin ollut sysipimeä ja lumeton marraskuu. Ei niin, että olisin tajunnut ottaa kuvaa yhdestäkään niistä lyhdyistä (edes omastamme)!!

Our friends' new home is beautiful, spacious with light decor. As it is so dark this time of year, all the guests brought lanterns as gifts! This was in no way planned, just a complete coincidence, which was probably inspired by the pitch dark month of November with no snow at all. Not that I would have had the sense to take pictures of any of the lanterns (even the one we brought)!!

Illan teeman mukaisesti oli tarjolla moussakaa, jonka kanssa tarjottiin salaattia ja hyvää oliiviöljyä. Yksinkertaista ja niin herkullista!

In accordance with the theme of the evening, moussaka was served with salad and good olive oil. Simple and so delicious!

Isäntäparin iltaa varten valitsema vuoden 2007 kreikkalainen viini oli erinomaista. Maku oli uskomattoman pehmeä!

Our hosts had chosen an excellent Greek wine from 2007. The taste was unbelievably smooth.

Jälkiruokana oli pannacottaa, karamellikastiketta ja mansikoita. Aikuisten ja lasten herkkua.

Dessert was pannacotta with caramel sauce and strawberries. Yummy dessert for both the kids and the adults.

Itse toimme lahjaksi myös pullon Retsinaa. Lahja oli lähinnä symbolinen. Ensimmäinen oma Retsina- kokemukseni ei ollut aiemmassa kreikkalaisessa illassa mitenkään mahtava - joskin ikimuistoinen. Kun maistoin Retsinaa ensimmäisen kerran, luulin että se oli homeista valkoviiniä! Ja voi olla, että silloin viinissä jotain vikaa olikin. Tai ehkä makuaistini on kehittynyt. En vieläkään voi laskea Retsinaa lempijuomieni joukkoon, mutta nyt kokemus ei ollut niin hurja, kuin aiemmin. Saatoin jopa maistaa hentoja pihkan vivahteita juomassa. Ehkä se Retsinakin vielä kohdallani riemuksi muuttuu...

We also brought along a bottle of Retsina. The gift was more symbolic than anything else. Personally my first Retsina experience at an earlier Greek evening was not great - although it was memorable. When I tasted Retsina for the first time, I thought it was moldy white wine! And it actually could be, that there was something wrong with that bottle. Or perhaps my taste has improved. I still cannot count Retsina as one of my favorite drinks, but now the experience wasn't a horrific as before. I could even taste faint notes of resin in the wine. Perhaps all is not lost with me and Retsina after all...

Iltaan mahtui ruokailun jälkeen paljonkin ohjelmaa ja esityksiä. Lasten kanssa piirtäminen on tietenkin olennainen osa melkein jokaista iltaa, jonka vietämme tässä porukassa.

We had quite bit of programme and performances after dinner. Drawing with the lids is of course one thing that is nearly always done with this group of friends.

Piirustuksista pidettiin sitten esityksiä ja kaikki saivat vuorollaan kertoa oman juttunsa ("yllättäen" minä vaatesuunnittelusta ja - kyllä, ehkä hieman yllättäen - Salla perhosten toukan kehittymisestä ja kuoriutumisesta...). Saimme myös nähdä cheerleader/voimisteluesityksiä (joista ei valitettavasti ole kuvia) ja poikien - niiden vähän isompien - kreikkalaisen tanssiesityksen (josta onneksi ei ole kuvia).

Kreikkalainen ilta loppui puolenyön jälkeen. Saimme itse vielä ystävämme yövieraaksi luoksemme, kun pääsimme kotiin ja näin ilta jatkui vielä suomalais-walesiläisenä jonkin aikaa.

We had performances about the drawings when they were done and everyone had to tell a story (I "surprisingly" gave a little speech about fashion design and Salla - perhaps a bit surprisingly - told us about how a caterpillar develops into a butterfly...). We also got to see cheerleadier/gymnastic performances (which I unfortunately don't have pictures of...) and the boys' - the older boys' - Greek dance performance (which I luckily don't have pictures of...).

The Greek evening ended a bit after midnight. After that we has a friend arrive from the city center to stay the night, and so a Finnish-Welsh evening still went on for a bit longer that night.
