Loppiainen/Epiphany

Hyvästi joulu ja sen juhlat! Loppiainen vei nyt juhlakauden mennessään ja vastaavasti aloitti uuden, uljaan ruokavuoden. Päätin tänä vuonna kirjata tänne blogiin ne juhlat, joita joka vuosi pidämme tai joihin osallistumme. Kun asiaa oikein ajattelee, on meillä monia tapahtumia, jotka toistuvat vakioporukoilla ympäri vuoden ja joihin liittyy aina hyvää ruokaa. Joitain olen jo viime vuonna kerännyt tänne blogiin, mutta nyt ajattelin todellakin kirjata tänne kaikki ruokavuotemme tapahtumat.

Joista ensimmäinen on siis loppiainen.

En edes muista, koska olemme kokoontuneet ensimmäisen kerran serkkuni luo Hermanniin loppiaisena. Ehkä serkkuni muistaa? Perinteeksi se kuitenkin on muodostunut. 

Good bye Christmas and all its festivities! Epiphany came and took away Christmas and brought with it a brand new year of food. I decided to record all the parties we give or attend during the year in this blog. When you think about it, we have many occasions that recur with certain groups of people throughout the year and which involve good food. I've already recorded some of them here last year but now I thought I would truly post all the events of our food year here. 

Of which the first is Epiphany.

I can't even remember the first time we gathered at my cousin's in Hermanni for Epiphany. Perhaps my cousin might remember? It has howeven now become a tradition.

Tässä taloudessa saa aina ihanaa ruokaa. Aina. Alkupaloina oli taivaallisen hyviä patee- ja brie-leipiä.

You always get great food here. Always. We had wonderful paté and brie sanwiches for starters.

                                             Kummityttöni oli tehnyt suloisen piparkakkutalon.

                                  My goddaughter had made a darling little gingerbread house.

Pääruokana oli jo legendaksi yltänyt "liisteri", eli possun sisäfilettä sinihomejuustokastikkeessa. Taivaallisen hyvää! Lempinimi on tullut eräältä ystävältä. Lieneekö kastikkeen värin takia?

The main course was "goo", fillet of pork in bluecheese sauce. This dish is already somewhat legendary. So good! A friend has given the dish the nickname. Perhaps because of the color?

Jälkiruokana oli ihan pavlova. Marenki oli hankittu Porilaisesta Annan marenkileipomosta. Tämä on ilmeisesti  legendaarinen marenginostopaikka. Outoa, että en ole koskaan ollut siellä. Seuraavan kerran kun vietämme pimuviikonloppua Porissa, pitää marenkipuodissa vierailla.

Dessert was a wonderful pavlova. The meringue ha been bought from Annan marenkileipomo in Pori. this is evidently a legendary meringue shop. Strange that I've never been there. The next time we have a girls' weekend in pori I have to visit this meringue shop.

Ruokailun päätteeksi joimme kahvia ja konjakkia (vai brandyä?) ja serkkuni tekemiä ihania, kevyitä ja pitsisiä kauralastuja. Jos ilta olisi päättynyt siihen, olisimme olleet tänään reippaita ja raikkaita. Vaan ei. Tässä porukassa ilta jatkuu pitkään, mikä on aina ihanaa mutta ei välttämättä takaa reippautta ja raikkautta seuraavaan päivään, jolloin myöskin pitää esiintyä ihmisten ilmoilla.

The meal eneded with coffee, cognac (or was it brandy?) and wonderful, light and lacey oatmeal cookies. If the evening had ended there, we would have been all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed today. But no. In this company the evening always goes on until late which is always wonderful but does not necessarily make you very bright-eyed or bushy-tailed the next day, when you also have to make an appearance in front of people.
