Sampalla on perinteisesti ollut luokkakokous aina helatorstain aattona, Flooran päivänä. Katevää siinä mielessä, että seuraava päivä on vapaapäivä ja monet pitävät vielä pitkän viikonlopun samaan syssyyn. Yleensä vanhojen luokkatovereiden jälleennäkeminen on niin riemullista, että siitä tosiaan tarvitsee toipua pari päivää!

Samppa on käynyt Steinerkoulua. Tässä koulussa on ihailtava yhteishenki ja Sampan vanhempikin sisko puhuu yhä "meidän luokkalaisista" vuosikymmenien jälkeen. Omassa koulussani tai luokassani ei sellaista yhteishenkeä juuri löytynyt. Osa entisistä koulukavereista ei edes muista toisiaan kouluajaoilta, kun tapaavat myöhemmin. Itse olen saanut kutsun johonkin ylioppilaskirjoitusten vuosipäivään nimella "Tua Rahikainen". Jätin ne bileet väliin...

Mutta Sampan luokka siis kokontuu sopuisasti lähes joka vuosi, joko jossain baarissa tai jonkun luona. Tänä vuonna oli jälleen Sampan vuoro järjestää juhlat. Silloin, kun Samppa järjestää luokkajuhlat, lähden itse koiran kanssa serkkuni luokse "hoitoon" Hermanniin. Voisin toki jäädä luokkajuhliinkin ja minua pyydettiin niin tekemään mutta tuntuu kivalta antaa luokan juhlia keskenään. En kuitenkaan pysyisi perässä kaikissa jutuissa. Ja on todella mukavaa mennä serkkuni luokse illaksi, ihan vain minä yksin. Harvemmin niin tapahtuu.

Alkuillasta auttelin kuitenkin juhlajärjestelyissä. Tein myös mustaviinimarja juustokakun ja ghanalaisen salaatin.

Samppa has traditionally had his class reunion on Floora´s nameday. It´s quite convenient, as the next day is a holiday here in Finland. Many people make it along weekend as well and seeing old class mates can be so very gleeful, that getting over the joy can well take a few days!

Samppa attended Steiner school They have an admirable team spirit at that school and even Samppa´s older sister still talks about "the people in our class", even after decades. We didn´t have such school or class spirit at my school. Some old school mates don´t even recognize each other when they meet later. I personally have received an invitation for our graduation reunion with the name "Tua Rahikainen". I skipped that reunion...

But Samppas class gets together in good spirit nearly every year, either at a bar or at someone´s home. This time it was Samppa´s turn to have the party at our place. When it is Samppa´s turn to host the party, I´m "in care" with the dog at my cousin´s place in Hermanni. Of course i could stay at the party and I was indeed asked to do so but it just feels nice to let the class party just among themselves. I wouldn´t be able to keep up with all the stories anyway. And it´s also really nice to go to my cousing just by myself. That doesn´t happen very often.

I did help out with the arrangements at the beginning of the evening. I also made a black currant cheese cake and a Ghanaian salad.

Tein ruokakontribuutioni Sampan toiveiden mukaan. Ihme kyllä, Sampalla on lempisalaatti ja se on juuri tämä ghanalainen. Samoin oli mustaviinimarjakakku Sampan makutoive. Löysin jopa Arabianrannan S-marketista syötäviä orvokkeja kakunkoristeeksi. Kassalla oleva myyjäkin niitä oikein ihmetteli. "Onko meillä tällaisiakin myynnissä?" hän huudahti! Olipa hyvinkin ja saisi olla useamminkin!

Serkkuni luona oli jännittävin hetki se, kun kummityttöni labradorinnoutaja Luna ja corgimme Siiri 5kk kohtasivat ensi kertaa. Ensikohtaaminen tapahtui Hermannin rantatiellä, turvallisesti ulkona, jossa vältyimme omaisuusvahingoilta, jos koirat olisivat riehaantuneet. Ainoa joka riehaantui, oli Siiri, joka teki voltteja ilmassa Lunan katsoessa rauhallisesti vieressä.

Ruoka serkkuni luona on aina ihanaa, niin nytkin. Aaluksi appelsiini- ja savupateeta.

I made my food contribution according to Samppa´s wishes. Surprisingly enough, Samppa does have a favorite salad and it is this Ghanaian one. The black currant cheese cake was also Samppa´s special wish. I even found edible irises at our S-market in Arabianranta. Even the girl at the check-out marveled at the flowers. "Do we stock these?" She exclaimed in wonder!  You do, and you should do so more often!

The most exciting moment at my cousin´s was when my goddaughter´s black lab Luna and our 5 month old Siiri corgi met for the first time. We had the first encouter outside on Hermannin rantatie to avoid any damage to property that may have happened inside had the dogs gotten too excited. The only one who got excited was Siiri, who did volts in the air while Luna calmly looked on.

The food at my cousin´s is always wonderful, and it was that this time as well. We had smoked and orange flavored paté foe starters.

Pääruokana oli todella herkullista kalawokkia. Olen saanut paljon ihanaa ruokaa serkkuni luona mutta kalawokki olikin ihan uusi tuttavuus! Voisin ottaa mielläni vaikka reseptin (vink vink Kiti...).

We had a really delicious fish wok as the main course. I have had many wonderful dishes at my cousin´s home but this was something new for me! I would very much like the recipe ( hint hint Kiti...).

Jälkiruoaksi saimme ihanaa pannukakkua, joka paisui upeasti uunissa, vaniljajäätelöä, tuoreita mansikoita ja mansikkahilloa.

Dessert was pancake, that puffed up in the oven wonderfully, with vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry jam.

Aterian päätti kummityttöni vastajauhamista pavuista valmistettu kahvi ja erittäin kauniista pullosta tarjoiltu brandy.

The meal ended with coffee freshly ground by my goddaughter and brandy from a very pretty bottle.

Jotenkin kummasti aika meni kuin siivillä ja yhtäkkiä olikin jo aamuyö! Oli sen verran mielenkiintoiset keskustelut, että ajankulua ei huomannut lainkaan. Ei niin, että Sampastakaan olisi mitään kuulunut. Kaikki  vieraat eivät olleet vielä lähteneet, kun vihdoin saavuin paikalle mutta varsin pian takseja alettiin tilailla ja viimeisetkin juhlijat suuntasivat kotiin päin.

Toivottavasti kaikilla oli onnistunut ilta. Minulla ainakin oli! Menen hoitoon todella mielelläni taas uudestaan!

Somehow time just flew by and suddenly it was two in the morning! He topics of conversation had been so interesting, that we hadn´t noticed at all what time it was. Not that I had heard anything from Samppa.There were still some guests left at our place when i appeared on the scene but pretty soon cabs were called and even the last guests headed for home.

I hope everyone had a good evening. I certainly did! I´ll gladly be "in care" at my cousins again!
