Susisaari

Viime viikon lopulla siis suuntasimme Kaukalosaaresta Helsinkiin syntymäpäiville ja kuluneen viikon akussa taas käänsimme auton nokan kohti Kuopiota, jossa sijaitsee ystäviemme mökki Susisaaressa. Tosin siellä ei ole susia, mikä on varmaan ihan hyvä juttu!

At the end of last week we headed back to Helsinki from Kaukalosaari to celebrate my friends´ birthdays and at the beginning of this week we drove to Kuopio, where our friends have a cottage on Susisaari (Wolf Island). No wolves there though, which is probably a very good thing!

Ystäviemme mökki on rakennettu aivan veden ääreen, mikä on nykyään mökkirakentamisessa kiellettyä. Kiellettyä ei näköjään kuitenkaan ole kerrostalojen rakentaminen aivan veden rajaan! Susisaaren vastarannalle oli noussut uusi Saaristokaupungin asuinalue, joka on varmaan asukkaiden mielestä ihana mutta tuskin on sitä mökkiläisten mielestä.

Our friends´ cottage is built right by the shoreline, which is nowadays not allowed in cottage building. But it seems to be allowed in apartment block building! The new area of Saaristokaupunkin has sprung up on the opposite shore from Susisaari. The people living there must be very happy but perhaps the cottage owners not so much.

Ensimmäinen päivä Susisaaressa olikin kaunis ja aurinkoinen ja saatoimme nauttia alkupalat ja päivällisenkin ulkona.

The first day on Susisaari was very beautiful and sunny and we were able to have starters and even dinner outside.

Ennen ateriaa teimme saarikierroksen. Ihastuttava yksityiskohta oli pieni kalliosaari, jonne meni silta. Ennen saaren korkeimmallakohdalla oli vilpola, jossa oli samanlainen korkea ja kapea koristepiikki, kuin päätalossakin. Kerran siihen piikkiin sitten osui salama ja vilpola paloi räjähdysmäisesti. Kalliolla oli yhä jäljellä sulanutta ikkunalasia.

Before the evening meal we did a tour around the island. A lovely feature was the small rock island with a bridge leading to it. Before there used to be a small gazebo at the highest sot on the island. The gazebo had the same kind of needle shaped decoration on the roof as the main house has. And then once the needle was hit by lightning and the whole gazebo went up in flames. There are still melted bits of window glass to be found on the rocks.

Kuten sanottu, nautimme päivällisen ulkona, mikä oli hieno juttu. Seuraavana päivänä ei sää meitä enää suosinut.

As I mentioned earlier, we had dinner outside. The next day that was not possible.

Menu oli täytettyjä kanafileitä, sulatejuustoherkkusieniä ja salaattia. Ja kaikkihan maistuu aina taivaalliselta, kun ateria nautitaan ulkona!

There were fed chicken fillets, cheese mushrooms and salad on the menu. And everything just tastes so delicious when it is eaten outside!

Mökki Susisaaressa on jo aika vanha ja aika on patinoinut sitä kauniisti.

Our friends´ cottage is already rather old and it has aged beautifully.

Ensimmäinen ilta sujui siis mukavassa säässä ja mukavassa seurassa. Tytöt vetäytyivät yöpuulle jo aikaisemmin mutta pojat jatkoivat vielä myöhään (vaikka Sampasta ei heti olisi uskonut, että hän jaksaisi enää ollenkaan...tapahtui ihmeskarppaus!).

Seuraavana päivänä kiersimme veneellä Saaristokaupungin asuinalueen ja näimme sen koko komeudessaan. Silloin taivas oli jo harmaa ja sää kolea. Veneretken loppupuolella ripsi jo vettä. Päivä vietettäisiin sisätiloissa. Mutta mikäs siinä, jos hyvää ruokaa ja juomaa ja seuraa riittää!

Thee first evening was spent in good weather and great company. The girls turned in earlier but the guys kept on going (even though it seemed doubtful, that Samppa could stay awake... he somehow pulled himself together!)

The next day we went around Saaristokaupunki with the boat and saw it in all its glory Already then the sky was grey and the weather was quite cold. At the end of the boat ride, it started raining. We would be spending the day indoors. But that was just fine, as long as you have enough good food, drink and company!

Lohi savustui grillissä rannalla. Ystävämme ovat taitavia ruoanlaittajia ja kaikki tuntui sujuvan käden käänteessä. Sain kuitenkin osallistua valmisteluihin pesemällä perunat. Muuten lähinnä tarjosin juttuseuraa ja viininsiemailuseuraa!

The salmon was smoked in the grill by the water. Our friends are accomplished cooks and everything was prepared effortlessly. I did get to contribute by washing the potatoes. Otherwise I provided conversation and helped drink the wine!

Aterian kaunis ja herkullinen päätös oli kesäinen mansikkakakku.

We finished the meal with a pretty and delicious summery strawberry cake.

Jaksomme toisena iltana vielä myöhempään, kuin edellisenä iltana. Harvoin käy niin, että saunominen piristää. Yleensä kaikki lähinnä väsähtävät saunomisen jälkeen. Nyt kuitenkin saimme saunasta uutta virtaa ja valvoimme aamun pikkutunneille asti. Mikäs siinä! Nythän on kesä ja loma!!

We stayed up even later on the second evening. It is rarely so, that a sauna will feel more awake. Usually people get drowsy after a sauna. Now however we somehow were rejuvenated by the sauna and we stayed up until the small hours. But that´s fine! It´s summer and we are on vacation.
