Mökkivieraita/Friends at the Cottage

Mihin päivät täällä mökillä katoavat? On jo sunnuntai ja kohta koko lomakin on ohi. Ensi viikolla suuntaamme jo takaisin Helsinkiin.

Saimme kuitenkin nauttia vielä kerran vieraiden seurasta viime torstaina, kun naapurimme ja ystävämme teini-ikäisine poikineen saapui Kaukalosaareen. Päätin vakaasti tällä kertaa kuvata ja blogata vierailun. Meillä on toki ollut muitakin vieraita saaressa tänä kesänä mutta olen niiden vierailujen aikana keskittynyt niin kokonaan vain oleiluun ystävien kanssa, että kuvamateriaalia blogiin en juuri muistanut tallentaa. Nyt siis päätin ottaa paljon kuvia kivaan postaukseen.

Where do the days here at the cottage go? It´s Sunday already and soon the vacation will be over. Next week we already head back to Helsinki.

We did get to enjoy the company of guests last Thursday, when our neighbor and friend came to Kaukalosaari with her teenage son. I decided firmly to photograph and blog the visit. We have of course had other guests here on the island this summer but always during those visits. I´ve concentrated so fully on being with the guests, that I´ve hardly remembered to collect photo material. Thus I now decided to take lots of photos for a fun blog post.

Right.

Mutta aluksi ainakin muistin dokumentoida tapahtumia. Kuvassa tuliaisiksi saamamme Rönnvikin viinitilan viherherukkaviiniä. Rönnvikin viinitila on matkan varrella Heksingistä Kangasalle ja oli todella hauska idea, että ystävämme kävi hankkimaan tuliaisen sieltä. Tilaviinit ovat tietenkin aina hieman riskaabeli hankinta, tiedämme kaikki sen. Koskaan ei voi tietää mitä hiivaista tai kitkerää seosta on pullotettu muka viininä. Mutta nyt kävi aika hyvin. Maistoimme viiniä eilen Sampan kanssa, eikä se ollut lainkaan hullumpaa. Ei liian makeaa, ei lainkaan hiivaista ja siis täysin juotavaa. Voisin ihan oikeasti tarjota tätä viiniä jälkiruoan kanssa joskus.

But at least in the beginning I remembered to document the events. In the above picture green currant wine from the Rönnvik winery that we received as a present. The Rönnvik winery is on the way to Kangasala from Helsinki and it was a really fun idea, that our friend stopped there to buy us a bottle. Produce from local berry wineries can of course be a bit risky, we all know that. You never know what yeasty or bitter stuff you´ll find in the bottle, posing as wine. But now we got lucky. We tasted the wine with Samppa last night, and it wasn´t bad at all. Not too sweet, not yeasty at all and thus totally drinkable. I could actually serve this wine as a dessert wine sometime.

Nautimme alkupaloiksi avocado-graavilohileipiä Proseccon kera. Istuimme sisukkaasti ulkona terassilla, vaikka välillä tuli vettä aika paljonkin! Suomen kesä - varsinkin tämä kesä - on vaatinut aikamoista sinnittelyä!

For starters we had avocado and gravlax sandwiches with Prosecco. We bravely sat outside on the terace, even though at times it rained quite heavily! Finnish summer - especially this one - requires quite a bit of rseverance.

Taivas oli koko ajan upean uhkaava ja päivän taittuessa kohti iltaa alkoi sataa melko paljon.

Ainoa tapa grillata oli sateenvarjon alla!

The sky was magnificently threatening all the time and a s day turned towards evening, it started raining quite a lot.

The only way to barbecue was under an umbrella!

Päätimme tarjoilla vieraille kanansiipiä eli wingsejä. Tampereen alue on Suomen - ellei koko maailman - wings- keskus, joten tämän kunniaksi mekin wingsejä valmistimme. Trendi Tampereella taitaa olla mahdollisimman mausteiset ja kuumat wingit mutta oma versiomme oli hieman miedompi.

We decided to serve chicken wings. The Tampere area is the chicken wings center of Finland - if not the whole world, so in honor of this we too prepared wings. The trend in Tampere seems to be as spicy and hot as possible as far a wings are concerned but our own version was a bit milder.

Ruokailun ajaksi siirryimme sentään sisätiloihin. Märkä sää ei ollut mitenkään lämminkään.

Lisukkeena wingsien kanssa oli uusia perunoita oliiviöljyn, persiljan ja kapriksien kera sekä paistettua halloumia vadelmavinegretin kera. Perunat pestiin Sampan erikoistekniikalla: perunat laitetaan kastelukannuun ja joukkoon lisätään rantakiviä ja vettä. Sitten vain rivakkaa ravistelua jonkin aikaa ja kivet ovat hanganneet perunat puhtaiksi! Tämä systeemi oikeasti toimii ja sitä kannattaa kokeilla, jos ei jaksa harjata kymmeniä pieniä uusia perunoita!

We did go inside to eat. The wet weather wasn´t especially warm either.

With the wings we had new potatoes with olive oil, parsley and capers and fried halloumi with raspberry vinnegrette. The potatoes were washed by the Samppa method: he potatoes are placed in a watering can and small stones and water is added. Then just shake vigorously for some time and the stones will have rubbed the potatoes clean! This system really does work and it´s worth trying, if you don´t want to brush clean dozens of tiny new potatoes!

Loppuiltaan mahtui sitten saunomista, ihania drinkkkejä ja myös paljon juttelua, jota teini-ikäinen vieraamme varmastikaan ei jaksanut juurikaan kuunnella. Olin siis vakaasti päättänyt kuvata kaikki illan tapahtumat mutta kuvaaminen tyssäsi viimeiseen valmistamaani kuusenkerkkädrinkkiin (joka sekään ei oikein mahtunut kuvaan). Kuvaamatta jäivät esim.  jälkiruoaksi tarjoillut vaahterasiirapissa ja Ginger Alessa marinoidut mansikat. Ja varmaan muutakin.

The rest of the evening was spent having a sauna, drinking lovely drinks and hatting a lot, which out teenage guest probably found really boring. I had really decided, that I would photograph all the events of the evening but my own photography ended with the last fur tree spruce drink I made (and even that didn´t really fit into the picture) There are no pictures of the maple syrup and Ginger Ale marinated strawberries we had for dessert. And probably many other things as well.

Illan huippuhauska päätös oli yömyssyt pienistä pulloista, joita ystävämme oli tuonut mukanaan. Huippuhauska siinäkin mielessä, että itse en saanut kuin pienen osan pullojen sisällöstä suuhun asti. Pienet keikkuvat munttusuklaa- ja rommipullot jotenkin vain kaatuilivat avonaisina pöydälle. Tämä oli ehkä mitä suurimmassa määrin alkoholin väärinkäyttöä mutta toisaalta oli ehkä parempi, että siinä vaiheessa ei alkoholia enää niin paljon suuhun päätynyt! Aamulla piti ihan vaihtaa pötäliina. Minttusuklaa on aika tahmeaa kamaa...

A super fun end to the evening was a night cap from small bottles, that our friend had brought with her. Super fine in the sense too, that i could actually get a very small amount of the liquor in my mouth. The small bobbing mint chocolate and rum bottles just kept tipping over on the table cloth once opened. This was probably a gross misuse of alcohol but on the other hand it was perhaps better, that at this stage I didn´t actually drink too much of the contents of the bottles! I actually had to change the yable cloth the next morning. Mint chocolate is pretty sticky stuff...



Seuraavana päivänä chillailimme kunnolla, ennen kuin vieraat suuntasivat kohti mannerta. Ajoitus oli täydellinen. Sampan saavuttua takaisin saareen taivas aukeni ja vettä tuli taas suorastaan kaatamalla!

The next day we just chilled out before the guests headed for the mainland. The timing was perfect. When Samppa arrived back on the island, the sky jus opened and it poured rain again!
